Hi, I’m erica gazija

BSc, NTP, HTMA-C

We are probably a lot more alike than you may think. I too have had my fair share of health troubles from acne, migraines, brain fog, joint pain, and low energy. Our society has normalized these debilitating symptoms but they are NOT normal but rather JUST common.

Prior to jumping into the nutrition space I followed the Standard American Diet. Event though I grew up eating a mostly whole food diet, my family took shortcuts and relied on convince foods on a regular basis. I consider myself lucky that we ate real food and even healing foods from time to time such as liver and meat stock from home made chicken soup (thanks mom & dad!).

After the first couple years of undergrad I decided to take a leave from school and during that time I became a vegetarian. I thought it was better for my health and the environment. Before returning to college I re-evaluated what major changes occured in my time off when deciding what my major would be. My diet and lifestyle by far were the biggest most impactful changes I had made, so I decided I would pursue a degree in nutrition. I’ll admit I felt better as a vegetarian, but I now attribute this to removing highly processed foods.

While completing my Nutrition degree I struggled with severe acne and decided to go vegan for the next 3 years. Again, I felt better after removing the conventional animal products I had been consuming and my skin improved- which is what I was hoping for. Although I felt better, this was likely due to removing poor quality dairy products and increasing my fruit and vegetable intake.

After completing my undergrad in nutrition in college I strongly felt like I fit inside the conventional nutrition model. My path led me to studying sustainable food systems and I began to understand the critical role animals play in the ecosystem and at the same time I was experiencing the worst of my health problems. I was experiencing major brain fog- unable to complete sentences, muscle loss and feeling very weak, and I hit rock bottom when my weight dropped below 90lbs (for reference I am 5” 1” tall). A family member introduced me to the Weston A. Price Foundation and the vegan veil was lifted.

I slowly began incorporating animal products back into my diet, focusing on foundations of health, healing my gut and finally started to see major improvements in my health.

With my health back on track my passion for holistic nutrition was reignited and I became a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner in 2021 to help others take find the root cause of their symptoms and take control of their health!
